Designer, Editorial Product –
Job Description
Seeking an interactive designer to join our highly talented and
motivated team. Your primary role will be to conceptualize and design
exciting editorial experiences for our users.
The editorial designer will collaborate with the Product Development
team in supporting design needs for reuters.com and other Reuters
consumer media projects.
Our ideal candidate understands our fast-paced news environment, will
be well organized, possess excellent communication skills, and is
experienced in translating challenging business requirements into
innovative design solutions. They will also have a passion for, and
curiosity about information consumption, and strive to develop
innovative solutions to everyday usability problems.
Job Responsibilities
• Design user interfaces and produce graphics for our consumer facing
websites and application areas.
• Conceive and develop interactive features and templates.
• Develop marketing collateral that supports our brands.
• Work with third-party partners to ensure design synergy between
their product and ours.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience
• Work must exhibit an exceptional understanding of the principles of
user-centered visual design, layout, typography, usability and
interaction
• Expert level of knowledge working with the most common tools of the
trade (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash)
• Must be Fluent in CSS, HTML, XHTML, and other languages associated
with front-end development
• Must have an intermediate understanding of actionscript and have
experience building flash interactives and working with rich.
Candidate Requirements
• All candidates must provide access to an online portfolio or digital
body of work.
• 6+ years as a graphic designer creating solutions for the Web
Education Requirement
• Must have a Bachelors Degree
Other Desired Qualities
• Experience in a news media environment
• Experience working with large amounts of data
• Experience designing for mobile websites and/or mobile applications
• Willingness to adhere to editorial and design style guides.
* This is a long-term temporary contracting position.
Local hires only. Must work on site
Designs and constructs web pages/sites including incorporating graphic
user interface (GUI) features and other techniques. Maintains and
provides ongoing design of the website, promos and ad banners,
seasonal content specials and custom chat launcher design for
partners. May require a bachelor's degree in a related area and 4-6
years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with a
variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on
experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a
variety of complicated tasks. May lead and direct the work of others.
Typically reports to a project leader or manager. A wide degree of
creativity and latitude is expected.
